Hope someone can help,I just picked up 2 small outboards and one is an old Viking 6 hp I believe,what I would like to know is what year is this motor?And where would I find parts?

Model is - 64701
Serial is - 1262

I have searched the net but can't find the 64701,the guy I bought off said 1967 but that does't jive with the model number.

Thanks

I don't have a record of it either. I suspect you have a 1960's Westbend built Viking. How do you know it can't be a 1967? Do you have any photos? That may help. Is it air cooled?

Re: Viking ID help needed please

I don't have a complete enough of a list, but the customary Viking system uses the horsepower as the first number, then a "4", then the year. So,
"6" = 6hp
"4" = a Viking thing
"7" = 1967

The guy seems to be right, it's a 1967. Made by Chrysler. A few parts might be available here at iboats. Other than that, head over to www.aomci.org and start down their "Links" page.

To follow-up, a 1967 6hp Chrysler is a model 6701. Notice it is the same thing but missing the Viking "4".

Re: Viking ID help needed please

Thanks for the help guys, I was able to get it running last night,wasn't sure if it would as it has been sittting a long time but after cleaning all fuel lines ,steaming the fuel tank out ,checked for spark,added fresh fuel and she went in about 3 pulls.Only problem now is that fishing line had got wrapped in behind the prop and cut the seal so need to hunt down one of these guys.

One more question on this motor, I noticed when running the motor that it doesn't have a steady "pee" stream from the water pump indicator,it is more of a splattering of water from the rear of the engine port,is this normal?

Thanks

if it is a 67 chrysler version it should have a good flow of water coming out. I just rehabbed and sold one. Running it in the barrel it spit out enough at a good pressure where it bypassed the barrel and ended up on the ground.
