i need some advise on vinyl....i am in the process of building new seats for my pontoon...i finished the first bench and used some cheap $3.99 sq yd vinyl the my wife tells me that there is a marine grade vinyl that is 9.99 sq yd...here is the question before ii build the next two benches (there are much larger than the first one) should i buy the marine grade or the cheap stuff? if i am going to have to put new vinyl every year then i would rather get the good stuff...

the marine grade is treated to with stand the UV rays. there are many sources online. also buyfoam.com is a great place to get foam for the cushions. lowest price i could find.

on the first bench i used some egg crate bed pad that i had for the cushions...i had just planed on buying another one i figured that 1 more would do it for the next 2 benches they are only 34.00....unless you guys think this will cause some problem that i am not realizing.....your the experts

boat re-building is not an exact science...what ever works.....i have a lot of sofas....(dont ask..)....i just took the cushions off one and used the foam....just leave a hole in the bottom of the wood you are using for a seat....thats for any water to get out and air to get in.....what ever works for you...

cheers

One of the steps in my current rebuild is a padded middle seat (that flips open for a small bit of stoarge). I was able to find great Marine Grade vinyl at Jo-ann fabrics last week (gray) and before I bought it a lady said I could get a 40% coupon from their website. I only lived a few blocks away so I printed the coupon and was able to get two yards (more than I need in case of mistakes) for the price of one. It's good stuff. They also had some foam padding for underneath. Might be worth checking out because then you can save on the shipping costs you'd encounter from ordering online. . . Just my 2 cents. . .

My mom has a sewing machine that embroiders logos (like company shirts, hats, etc.) so I digitized the Lone Star logo from my boat and she's going to re-create it on the vinyl before I attach it to the seat. I'll show pics when it's done. . .

No problem. . .The store that's close to my house had several colors so you should be able to find something to match your project's colors. . . It's good stuff, and may actually be the same material cabela's sells for a few bucks more.

Good luck!
