I was looking at a VIP boat this past weekend and I was looking for some comments on them. The dealer told me that they were made in NC but he didn't have a lot of info on them. I looked on there web site and that was also limited. I want a real world opinion on theses boats I was looking at the 19 foot center console with a 115 4 stroke yamaha on it.

Thanks :)

Re: VIP boats

Buddy has a 18' bowrider, older model I think. Last summer he was out in some rough weather and ended up splitting the hull open on the keel.

Re: VIP boats

I had an '86 VIP fish and ski. Pretty good boat except for a bit of rot in the floor. Sold it after one season because I was moving.

Re: VIP boats

this one has no wood anywhere so rot should not be an issue.

Re: VIP boats

im leaning towards a vindicator.. twin 350 mags boat/trailer less then 60K ...the one thing i cant figure out tho is why is there no windshield. i currently have a 88 searea sorrento basicicly same design and layout and i drive it for the most past standing up. but when i want to get out of the wind for a bit at least i can see through the windshield. the VIPs are made in LA.there baystelth and bluewater series may be made in NC im not sure however you can always call them on there 800# and ask. there are alot of 16-20ft CC out there shop and compare is all i can tell you.

Re: VIP boats

I own a 1990 VIP Bluewater 210 CCF, 20' center console, a good solid hull, big gas tank, not much wood for rot, I like it!
The company went bankrupt in the 90's and the new company seems to put out a decent line. The comparable hull now is a BAyStealth, but these seem to be more shallow water hulls than mine. If the new product is a good as the one I have, it is worth consideration.

Re: VIP boats

Many hull problems years ago.Was really a small lake quality hulled boat but were not marketed as such. Many cracked as Johnshan1 did.Personally, there are too many quality ,well built boats available to consider a VIP.Charlie

Re: VIP boats

My dad has an 89 VIP, Im not sure of the model. Its a modified trihull(18 ft), with seating all around. It was billed as a deck boat at the time.

It is a lightly build boat. Crazy Charlie is right about them being a small lake boat.

Re: VIP boats

The VIP boats I'm familiar with were made in Vivian, Louisiana (Vivian Industrial Products). They may have gone out of business.

Re: VIP boats

I have a 89 VIP Victory 20' with 5.0 Cobra V8. Bought last spring. Had been owned by a mechanic previously so it's been maintained very well. Has 459 hours and it runs very well.

We put 50 hours on ours last summer and loved it. Only issue I had was it getting stuck in reverse 1 time when I trailered and backed into the water==had to fiddle with the throttle/arm to pop into neutral.

I know it's a COBRA in the Mercruiser world, but I found a guy that can work on it. I had it winterized and changed the impeller last fall.

Little soft spot on the floor neer the rear bench, few dings, but altogether I really like it.

In fact, I just rescued it from it's winter indoor cave storage and ready for spring.

Re: VIP boats

Guys - I'm still looking at a used boat to purchase this spring. My local dealer has a really nice 1991 VIP Vision. I'm in IA, so no ocean boating here, in fact most of my boating is done on small northern MN lakes.

Were the hulls on these boats really prone to splitting open? Should that be a concern? I can't find any hard impacts on this one, or any seams in the hull for it to open up on.

Thanks!
