Re: vip vindicator 1989 25th anny

The Vindicator series were some fine boats.

Runabouts sold better because of the family orientated approach to boating. The Vindicators were all closed bow boats so those were sold to people that wanted closed bow boats for whatever reasons. ;)

And welcome to the forum.

I don't have the information handy for things like qty sold for a particular model. I don't have information about the boat at all in front of me but memory serves, that boat was tested at 60 MPH. To add stabilization, you could add trim tabs. We used the hydrolic kind that you adjust as you go from switches on the dash. I know they are kind of expensive. But I don't recommend operating it at an unsafe speed.

My thinking is that you have a 1900 Vindicator. Solid Red with Smoke tinted windshield. A 1900 was not really enough boat to be pushed at 72 MPH without some extra stabilization. The boat would ride up too high out of the water and not have enough running surface to offer lateral balance. I'm thinking the Max Recommanded Horsepower was something along the lines of 320 HP if even that much, probably more like 250. The problem can be made even worse if you have more weight on the port or starboard side than the other.

It's nice to see people take our boats to the next level, but keep safety in mind when you do so.

Re: vip vindicator 1989 25th anny

Here's my 25th Anniversary. I'm having trouble finding much information on these. I'm in the process of bringing the gelcoat back to life, and have a lot of interior work to do. I love the boat through, fun, sporty, quick and loud!

Any information on production numbers?
What were the engine options? I'm assuming mine has the 5.0 HO, were those 225 hp?
Any particular quirks? I noticed someone has installed planing fins on my outdrive ... any particular reason why?
It's propped with a 15x17 right now, which not near enough pitch. I'm going to put and 21p on it and see how it works. Any words of wisdom?

Thanks!

I have a 21in prop can't plane out with more than 2 people but it goes like hell on top 63mph I am pretty sure these ford 5.0's are 190 hp there not the ho model but considering how light the boat is and how friggin loud it is sure as hell feels like 225hp I have a 4 barrell holley with an edelbrocke intake I may be pushin past 200hp I recommend a 19 for all around use 17 for pullin skiers and 4 people and a 21p for goin assholin with 1 buddy around the lake for topend speed I rarely take off the 21p! this boat sounds like a top fuel dragster with the custom 4inch exhaust on it and its louder than most on my lake even though there pushin more horse they don't make 4inch anymore and they don't allow it in Pa for a boat past the year 2000 has to have a baffler installed the cops love me around my lake cause its so loud and as long as I am following the rules I can't be cited for noise violation which I think is ridiculous anyway I live on the lake just an excuse to fine people its my little red gem

I actually ended up picking up a 23p to start out with. Mine has the Edelbrock intake and Holley 4bbl as well. It will bury the speedo at about 4300 rpm with one person in it. With 3 adults, coolers and full of fuel it wants to top out at around 4000. I'm going to pick up a 21p, which should make that little boat rip. I'm also dropping on a set of GT40 heads and 1.7 roller rockers. That will give me some more compression, better flow and a little more lift out of the cam. Its probably going to be scary fast.

Is your exhaust still in the stock location? (below the swim platform) Mine is actually really quiet inside the boat, but everyone from shore says it loud as hell when I'm on plane.

Do you happen to know the stock fuel tank size? Seems pretty small, but haven't had enough run time to figure out exactly how much it will hold.
