Is this ok? I charge my battery every time I return to the house. While I'm on the water, the gauge reads a hair over 12 volts, I'd say around 12.2 volts. Is this acceptable or no? Also, is it the rectifier that charges the battery? I'm only asking because I have a good condition used one. Thanks for all and any help.

What engine, Koz? Does it charge the batt?

Sounds like there is no charge to the batt.

If the engine is charging the voltmeter should read around 14 volts. A fully charged battery with no load should read about 12.6 volts.

Good luck. :)

Check it with digital meter, dash mount meters get banged around a lot and might not be right.

These engines don't have a regulator, so don't be surprised to see the voltage get quite high, even as high as 17 volts, so it's imperative you use a marine battery.

Chris............
