We now own this motor on pontoon , was thinking of installing a volt meter ,good idea or bad, and can any one tell me what terminal to put wires on?

It is neither a good idea or a bad idea. If you want or like a voltmeter, can match the gauges in the dash, and have the room, install one.

Wiring is simple: The positive or power wire is attached to the "I" or "A" terminal of the ignition switch and the other wire attaches to a ground. Light wire is attached parallel to the rest of the gauge lights.

Or, if you have a 12v outlet (cigar lighter) on the dash, you can get one to plug into it. no wiring involved. $6
