I know most regulators should put out about 14V or so on idle maybe more once powered up . Mine is only putting out 12.38V idle or reved up, but the stator is only putting out about 9VAC going to the reg. is this normal? What should the voltage be on the stator wires going to the regulator. Or on older motors is 12.38 VDC good off the regulators?

Thanks for any input

You don't test the stator for AC volts ring test it with a OHM meter, it sounds like one side of the rectifier is bad have you OHM tested it?

Even if you tested the stator for AC volts, a shorted diode would clamp it to a lower voltage. Odds are the rectifier is bad. Disconnect it and test it with an ohmmeter.

hope it helps

Phil, That motor only came with a rectifier. It was an unregulated system. If you are only getting 9V, then either the stator is bad(open or shorted to ground), or the rectifier has a short to ground. As was suggested, disconnect both stator wires fromt he rectifier and test the stator for an open or short. Now test the rectiifer for open or short of the diodes.
