Voltage regulator bench test?

Hello gang,

I have a 1994 Mercury 75hp 3 cylinder outboard, serial #0G013936, that uses Mercury voltage regulator #883072T. I was wondering if anyone might know how to bench test this regulator. I was given one as a spare and don't wish to go through the time and trouble to install on the motor to see if it works properly.

Thanks for your time.

That has a built in rectifier so you would have to have the equipment to simulate a stator's output. Its really very easy to change out on your motor.

what character does a voltage regulatory have when it's going bad in a 2001 mercury outboard 90hp 3 cylinder

Voltage will be way too high or too low, or just no charging at all. Be sure the battery and wiring are in good condition, as problems there can wreak havoc with the charging system.
