I'm thinking about replacing the regulator/rectifier assy and trigger because I still have a low speed miss. Mid to WOT is great and it has four new coils and two new power packs and a stator. For sure it didn't need a stator and who knows about the power packs but it's 35+ years so I'm good with replacing everything in the long run.

Getting to my question is that for some reason the 86'-87' years have a regulator/rectifier in one and it's $200 aftermarket. The 87'-89' years have a separate regulator and rectifier that would be cheaper as the reg. is $75 and rectifier is $36. Both regulators are the same size so the other one will bolt right up etc.... I don't see WHY it would make a difference if I went with the separate ones. Can yall school me on this?

If it has tilt and trim need the combo unit..one is a 6 amp and other is a 9 amp also use matching stator

That kind of crossed my mind. When I replaced the stator the aftermarket part "replaced" stators for T&T and non T&T stators but why wouldn't they do that for the regulators/rectifiers and why would the 87-89 be separate if T&T mattered?
