Voltage Regulator

Why are there really cheap ($35) and really expensive ($150>) voltage regulators on the market? They both look the same on the outside? I had two cheap ones fail in the past year. I went ahead a bought an expensive regulator. I hope this is a good case of "you get what you pay for"

The two I bought back then ^^^^ are still good to go and are very well used........I run 3 batts (two deeps, one starting) 4 electric downrigger, bilge, wash down, live well, fish well, Garmin, VHF, Standard AM/FM, yada yada yada and never had an issue yet with them.

You might have some other issues esp since you have a mod'd system AND/OR you do have to be careful with some knock off stuff out there, however these are the real deal.........I'm fairly confident CDI is buying from same'ish Chinese source, re-branding and marking them waaaay up.

So far no problems with the cheapo I bought last year for a 1992 Mariner 150.
