I have a 1986 Bayliner 1950 Open Bow with a Volva Penta AQ 225E engine (GM 305) and 275 outdrive.. I never had an overheating problem before this summer on start-up. There was no water coming out of the two exhaust hoses. I have changed all of the water hoses about 1-1/2 yrs ago as well as a new impeller. I am in the process of putting in a new impeller (waiting for the shipment) just in case the old one was bad.. I noticed the drive (fan) belt was loose and tightened it. It didn't help the problem. Is there something else I should do if the new impeller doesn't solve the problem? Could the thermostat be stuck closed? Suggestions?

Check the "Overheating" article that Don S. has from Volvo, but I'll bet money that the "S" hose from your outdrive to the transom is leaking and then your seawater pump is sucking air and not enough raw water to cool the engine.
