I have 1987 bayliner capri with a volvo penta AQ131 motor and volvo penta outdrive model 275. What propeller do I need?

Thanks,
John

Re: volva penta prop

Prop selection depends on exact model boat, typical load and activity.
What is the present prop size and max rpm and speed.Your max reccomended rpm, sometimes on a label on the motor.

Re: volva penta prop

it is a 17.5 foot boat. It holds 8 people usually have 4-6 people in it. We use it for tubing, skiing and some slaloming. I am not sure what size prop it has on it now. The engine manual claims the max RPM is 4700 but it tops out now around 3800-4000. I hope this helps.

Thanks

Without prop size it is very difficult to judge any of your specs.Prop numbers should be on the hub or barrel. -- X -- Diameter X pitch.
If 3,800-4,000 is with a typical load it would be good to get it to around 4,400 this would give you a little rev room when lightly loaded you can throttle back if it seems to exceed max recommended.
if 38 to 4,000 is with one aboard assuming it has the correct prop you need to check the engine; well tuned, check compression,is throttle opening all the way?Prop in good shape.Just a guess boat lightly loaded prop would probably be a 19 or 21 pitch with speeds approaching 40 mph.
An inch change in pitch will yeild about 200 rpm higher number pitch decreases rpm, lower increases.
