I took the prop of my outdrive last fall. Is there anything special I should do when I reinstall it? Do you need to apply grease or anything? One other item, I am going to have a tuneup done on the engine (4 cyl), and have them pull the drive and inspect. What would be a resonable price for this? This will be the second year with the boat, and I have never had this done before. Thanks for your input

Re: Volve SX Prop

Grease the shaft with volvo Penta Propellor grease (Part 11141644) or OMC triple guard. Torque the prop nut to 70 - 80ft lb. Install a new stainless cotter pin.

One a year you should also be removing the drive and grease the Gimbal bearing and grease the Universal Joint Splines. I also removed the bellows and checked them for cracks and checked the Universal Joint.

Not sure any of the information at mercstuff.com will help since you have a Volvo, but to do a tuneup, pull the drive and inspect will probably cost you about 2 hours of labor plus what ever parts are needed.
Yes, grease the prop shaft splines. Any good quality marine grease will work, and remove the prop at least yearly and regrease.
You should also have the gearlube changed yearly or every 100 hrs. For most, this is done during winterization along with oil and filter change, fuel filter change. That way you know the engine and drive systems don't have any water that could freeze or cause damage while sitting all winter.
