Hi.

I've got a 92 Volvo 230a in a 17.5' Crestliner. According to the plate on the engine, it's actually a 230a/sp. This is my first question, what does the /sp signify?

Searching around, I've found some information on the 230a. I haven't been able to find the recommended WOT RPM? Does anyone have an idea what this should be?

Next, what is your favorite cold starting procedure for this engine? I've been priming the carb with a few shots of fuel (by advancing the throttle to full and back when in the neutral position) and then cranking. This still seems to take a minute or so of cranking to get it going. Should I give it more priming?

Lastly, does this engine have a choke mechanism of any kind?

Thanks for the help!

Re: Volvo 230a Questions

That is some seriously helpful information.

For future searchers...
WOT RPM: 4700-5000

Engine does have a "cold starting device" which engages only when the throttle is in idle position. No notes in the manuals about giving it shots of fuel with the throttle when in neutral safety position. Note, when doing this you're actually using the acceleration jet feature of the engine. I didn't see priming with the acceleration jet mentioned anywhere as a "try this" for cold starting.

Re: Volvo 230a Questions

My 230A/SP is in a Glastron 1700. It needs at least a couple pumps of the throttle to prime it for starting. (This uses the accelerator jet) I don't have any kind of choke. Your installation may be different.
