I am in the process of pulling my engine so I can change the PDS bearings for my Glasply with a Buick 225 V6. When I went to jack the clamp ring off, I ended up stripping the threads on the clamp ring. Now I have a stuck clamp ring. I removed 6 bolts from the flywheel housing, all the electrical components, and the engine mounts.
I think I need to re-drill and tap the holes for the clamp ring, but I want to make sure there isn't something else I should do before commit to drilling into the clamp ring. Does anybody have a better idea of what I should do?
The pic shows a picture of the stripped threads on the bolts. You can see the bolt threads are still in tact.

is there room to use a helicoil? if not, I would cut the ring off with a die grinder and replace it with one from ebay

If I was going to drill and retap then I'd use something like Helicoils, so the bolt diameter & thread pitch would be the same as they were originally. You can also check on this website or others for a new ring or get the volvo part number and search ebay for a used one. IIR, the bolts are special, I think the threads are longer than a standard bolt of that diameter and length. I know this because I had to replace one bolt. I got the right length then used a die to add more threads. Or you could find full threaded bolts or stk volvo ones. I would not used the old ones because they were in stripped holes.
