Volvo 290 outdrive

I am currently in the process of pulling and rebuilding my volvo engine through the winter, in the mean time i have the upper gearbox removed. My question is, if i leave my boat outside through the winter, will i have issues with the outdrive sitting out without oil and the upper gear box removed?

I would fill it with oil and cover it, gears and bearings dont like exposure even if it moisture in the air.

yes, fill with oil and cover. You can use some 99cent oil. 3 dollars is pretty cheap insurance.

make sure you keep the little shims that were between the gearboxes ,they are expensive and remember how many there were and were it is very expensive . send it out and have it resealed . or find someone local to reseal it .
