Not sure on this. Runs under 120. 1998 Chaparral 290

1..gauge is not right? It does not creep up when the key is off like the other gauge.

2..sending unit is not working correctly? where is the sending unit on this engine? I do not see it on the thermostat housing.

3..thermostat stuck open.

I could ground the sending unit to check the gauge if I could find the sending unit...LOL.

thx for any help.

What's the full model number of your engine? Need the letters after the GL.
Have you replace the thermostat? On raw water cooled engines, they stick open quite often.
What you should do before replacing the sender is to get one of those IR temp guns and check to see what the engine is actually running at right next to the temp sender.
Temp senders are always on either the thermostat housing or the intake manifold next to to the thermostat housing.
The wire going to it should be tan with a black stripe.

yes sir, there it was. It's on the intake manifold and under the water hose. The wire was under the hose also.

I did notice my main plug harness on the riser was partially unplugged. I could see several pins.

What's the deal with the primer bulbs in this boat? None of my other I/O's had these. It has one for each engine. I squeeze them and you can hear it in the tank BUT the boat is way empty on fuel right now, I just bought it and knew it was going to sit for a couple months while I got it cleaned up.

I'm not new to this at all just my 1st volvo.

I'll get the engine/drive #'s.

The engine numbers are easy to read on the electrical box but the stickers on the air cleaner cover are barely legible so interpret if you can.

Engine #4.3GL PWTR 4110186311 3868941
Drive # 41120 2601 3B61 893 is about the best I can make out, they just are not legible from fading.

Your primer bulbs are a previous owner mistake. IO's should not have primer bulbs. They will not pass a fire test should you get a fire in the engine compartment.

Now you know why I ask for full model numbers on engines, you was asking about a 98 engine, but the WT is a 99 model engine. Not uncommon since engine years start at different times of the year than boat years.

You have an SX drive. There should be a metal tag on the port side of the drive, forward part probably hidden from view by the trim cylinder.
It has the model and gear ratio numbers on it.

Thx Don, those numbers are painted over twice by now. I can't make out any of them.
