I posted the other day that I thought I had a diode problem because my motor would fire up and then stall right away. I tested the wire from L2 on alternator to green wire at relay and have continuity so I think I can rule out the diode.
Here is the new twist, the motor started right up, but the voltage gauge was reading 11 volts. I was able to keep it running above 1500 rpm. I shut it down and got out my manual, spent about a half hour reading the electrical testing section. Went back down to the boat, it started right up again. Now the voltage gauge was reading just around 13 volts but the needle was jumping from about 12.5 up to 14 with the rpm of about 800. I started the port motor to see what I get there, voltage gauge steady just under 14 volts. So I am concerned because I really didn?t do anything to the boat other than test the wire from the alternator. The motor starts and runs on five or six tries now. But I am concerned that, because the voltage gauge is jumping around, I may have a problem that will resurface later. Any suggestions?
Also, for folks who did not read my other post, motor has a brand new alternator.
