Ok....I know this question gets asked all the time, but I haven't found an answer I like. I have a 1999 Regal 2100 LSR with a 5.0gl in it. Late last season the start started acting up. Clicking, but would start after a few tries. Of course, I have the same issue this year. I have looked at the starter and cleaned the connections, I had the battery checked at Advanced auto and Walmart. Its a 1000 cranking amp interstate battery and It tested good...still putting out 1000 cranking amps. My volt meter shows 12.5ish volts with no load on it. So I dont think its the battery. I think its probably the starter or the silenoid. I know there is some type of relay in the middle of all of this too, but I cant find it. Any other suggestions before I go through the agonizing task of taking the starter off? I was going to go out to the lake tomorrow...since it still does start after a few tries. Should I be worried that it might totally die? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you've verified that ALL connections are good and solid I would suspect the starter solenoid. When it does eventually crank, is it slow to crank or does it crank with a lot of energy?

As for taking the boat out with a possible no start scenario- unless you have someone who can tow you in or you don't mind spending a couple hundred on Sea Tow, I wouldn't risk it. I know the feeling of really wanting to go out, but a faulty starter will find a way to fail at the most importune time.

Second that. Had the same issue years ago. Repaced selenoid no problem since. But be careful not to over torque the electical studs as they are just molded in by the plastic.
