Volvo 5.0 SX only 4000 rpm at WOT

I have a Cruisers 2870 with dual 5.0 Volvo SX DuoProps. I just bought it a couple of weeks ago. The starboard engine will only reach 4000 RPM at WOT while the port engine will hit around 4700-4800. Possibly a throttle cable adjustment of some sort?

Any help would be appreciated.

There is a thread in the Adults only or the info for DIY'ers FAQ sticky that is titled something like "reasons for low WOT RPM" or something like that.

It lists all of the possible causes.

Actually here it is.

Shift cable out of adjustment
timing
fuel restriction
air in fuel system
wrong prop
wrong gear ratio

Bunch of stuff. Start checking the list out.

I always forget about the Adults Only thread. Thanks for the info - a couple of things for me to look at.

Is anyone familiar with throttle adjustments on the 5.0 Volvo SX? I'm pretty sure that's the problem, as there is no rough idling, the engine fires right up, it's not missing...really it's purring like a kitten, I think I just need more throttle to get to the WOT RPM range.

Are these 5.0L Volvos carbed or EFI? Do you have a FULL model number for the engine, including the letters following the 5.0???

You still need to do a full service, including a compression test. Then you have a place to start if the problem is still there.

Took me a bit to determine the correct spark plugs, so for future reference, the Volvo 5.0Gi uses Champion RS12YC (401) plugs. Volvo and boating stores online wanted almost $4.00 per plug. I picked them up at Napa for about $1.50 per plug.

Now to find the fuel filters at a non-Volvo price.
