I have a Reinell 200LSE with a VP 5.0GL. This stall has happened a few times but it is not consistent. I start with it cold and the boat does just fine. After a few hours on the lake and floating for a hour or so I start it back up. Starts fine, gets up on a plane and runs for a few hundred yards. Then it stalls and shuts completely down. I can also smell fuel when it does this. I try and start it three times then it starts up like nothing is wrong and off we go. Has anybody had this problem and if so, do you know how to fix it?

Sounds like a vapor lock issue too me, although fuel smell could be ignition.

Actually a few hundred yards would be about how long it took to run the fuel out of the carburetor. The electric fuel pump gets voltage from starter when cranking then alternator when running. If fuel pump was or fuel pump circuit was going bad it would not always fill carb.

Without additional information really tough to say.

The vapor lock would make sense. It is after the tank has been run down about five gallons from the 40 gallon tank. I will need to look at the hoses and see if they run close to the motor where they could get hot. Thanks for your help.

Re: Volvo 5.0GL Stall problem

I went to the lake today and it stalled again. I looked at where the fuel line is run and noticed it was routed between the cooling lines and the top of the motor. It sit's about a inch from the top of the motor. Could this being to close to the engine cause the vapor lock problem. It is a braided hose that runs between the water separator and the carburetor.

When was your filter replaced last?

When you stop next time, run your blower for awhile to help cool down the engine compartment and/or open up the engine cover. If that helps, could be a vapor lock problem.

It was replaced at the end of last year. Could that fuel line running to close to the engine be the problem.
