Water pump was dribbling water inside the boat when running. Removed the pump, planning to do an impeller kit. I'm not sure what to do with the bearing/mount plate thingy shown in my attached picture. It spins around freely, as I believe it is supposed to do. However it also wobbles a bit and it grumbles and doesn't spin very smooth and quiet...I assume because it is a completely dry bearing due to water intrusion, along with some wear?

If so, how do I replace this part? I have pulled on it by hand and it doesn't come off...can't see how it's attached. Pressed on? Should I use a gear puller? Will a new one just slip on? Is there a set screw somewhere that I'm missing? Can't find any reference to this part in the service manual, but maybe I'm not reading the right pages. Procedure for replacing water pump simply says "inspect bearing for wear." Then it stops and doesn't tell me what to do if I find wear...

Help please? What part number do I need to buy, if anything, in addition to my waterpump rebuild kit.

Thanks again.

Ahhhh...the pic helps. Thank you. So the complete pump assembly comes with the belt pulley and everything??

So in order for me to remove the REST of the water pump, which I currently still have attached to the motor, I basically need to remove the entire pulley as an assembly....which if I recall is probably simply bolted on by 3 or maybe 4 hex screws? (One of the hex screws I'm referring to is shown in my photo, left of the bearing.)

Yes, the pump assembly comes with the pulley and everything. You remove it from the harmonic balancer by removing the internal hex (allens).

This may be a stupid question but considering that I truly do not know the answer (and I really don't want to go down with my ship), I figure I'd better ask anyway!! Does the boat have to come out of the water before attempting to replace the entire pump, not just the impeller?? 1999 Volvo Penta 5.0GL pn# 21214596 Thanx!! Haydee

Since that hose is typically below the water line, yes water will come into your boat. All you need to do is to have something to plug into the hose while you work on it.

In the future, you shoudl start your own thread instead of adding a post to an old one.

Welcome to iBoats. :)
