Several years ago i purchased this 07 Chaparral 256ssi. The motor blew 6 months later and it was rebuilt. This whole history is pretty much contained in the link below. I no longer have access to that email account so i had to create a new account here.
My previous posts on this boat can be found by clicking here.
An issue i am having currently is that when the boat is at idle or higher, and the outdrive is up or turned right or left I seem to be getting a lot of noise from the bell housing. It is very noticeable if the engine hatch is open. I dont really recall hearing this before and i dont hear it when i am cruising in the boat. I am assuming that if this is not normal it is an issue with either the U-joints, gimbal bearing or engine alignment.
My experience with a bad gimbal bearing has always been noise and vibration while under load. This doesnt seem to be the case. The gimbal bearing was replace when the motor was replaced. Probably less than 50 hours on it. When i replaced the motor, i also replaced the upper half of the outdrive with a brand new one that included a new drive shaft.
Anyone with any thoughts on this?
