Hi all i was given a Renken 19' boat with a volvo aq 125 and 270 out drive. This boat sat for 5 years uncovered and with no motor cover. I drained the oil and a gallon of water came out along with the oil.The motor does turn but don't know what damage was done. Before i get to involved in this i was wondering if this is a auto based motor and if so what year and model could i get one from. This looks like the 4 cyl that came in the volvo 240 the B17? But will it interchange with the motor in my boat? The out drive looks to be in very good shape but needs a prop.Any help would be great. Thanks Larry

Re: volvo aq 125

Hi Larry, The aq125 was either an 'A' or a 'B' version.

125a - 2.1 Liter (129 cid)
125b - 2.3 Liter (141cid)

The 125a is based on a volvo car engine B21
The 125b ...............................B23

They look the same - they will interchange (as a whole unit), but their are internal differences - bore size, camshaft, main bearings etc, etc.....

The b21 and b23 were very popular volvo motors for nearly 20 years, you shouldn't have trouble locating one.

Of course you will have marine specific accessories - don't use the auto acc. that might come with the motor. Others here will hopefully give you more specific advise on marine specific accessories.

One more thing, I'm not sure if the auto cam & marine cam are the same on these motors, if you can't determine this - use your existing cam (if its o/k)

Aldo
