I own a couple boats with the overhead cam volvo 4-cylinders and was getting increasingly irritated with the factory cooling system. They are good little engines which are easy on gas so I was reluctant to repower with something else.
The expensive weirdo seals and crispy plastic parts, and having to remove the system every time I needed to work on the front of the engine....i.e. to change the water pump, timing belt, or tension the timing belt.
A friend of mine works for an exchanger company and thru an evening BS session he said they had been getting enough calls for these that they would be interested in building a entire replacement kit for the AQ120 thru AQ151 motors.
We came up with a replacement freshwater system which bolts on in the place of the old one, only requiring beaded sleeves to be soldered or brazed onto the raw water pipes as we use pre-formed hoses to the exchanger instead of the leaky slip fittings.
The exchanger contains a zinc anode to prevent corrosion, removable end caps which allow inspection of the tubes on the water, and allows access to the water pump, timing belt, and tensioner WITHOUT removing the cooling system. The hoses used are standard #'s available at any auto parts store.

Older motors, the AQ120-AQ140 with the two piece oem system, require the newer style water pump with the hose fitting on the suction side. This pump is the same as the 240 series volvo's but the blockoff plate for the heater hose hole must be sourced or otherwise plugged.

I have no affiliation other than I helped with the R&D and got a great deal on my system, just putting the word out that you can put an end to the frustration and suffering involved with the oem unit.

Also a member of BOC, I have a step by step write-up of the install here with pics:

I hope the IB mods don't mind the BOC link, if so I will try to transfer everything over to this post when I have a moment.

Seakamp Engineering makes the kit and should have them available soon if not already.
