I am having my 89 Volvo AQ171C bored 30 over since I got water in the cylinders. I need pistons and I cannot find them. My mechanic can make them for 500 but I would like to find them a little cheaper. Does anyone have an idea where I might find some?

I found some but they were 310 for each piston.

I would be real interested in knowing how he's going to make them. Is he going to machine them from a solid piece of barstock??? Does he plan to modify some existing pistons??? Either way, that's a dirt cheap price for a LOT of precision machining. I can't even imagine making a piston without several hours of machine time each. Shop time around here runs about $100/hour.

I have no idea how he is making them. My brother-in-law is dealing with him. I was wondering how he was going to do it too. I would think making them would cost more than 500 but that is the price he gave us. I would like to pay a couple of hundred less but it may be my only option.

Have you talked to a local automotive machine shop? They are usually in the know as to what can be had and what can be used. Also do not get hung up on selecting the exact piston for compression ratio purposes. I do not know what your stock volvo was but you can go up to 9.5:1 c/r and still burn regular gas. That is who I would be dealing with directly anyway. Why let a mechanic get in between the two of you. Just more $$$$'s. The machine shops will assemble the engine for you.
