I have a new impeller ordered. My question is how do I find all the pieces that were thrown out of the pump. Can I back flush the block from the water drains? I know the thermostat housing is a good place to start. Could the shredded impeller parts have been pumped out of the engine? Thanks

The chances that the pieces being pushed out are about 1 in a thousand.
You need to start removing hoses and start back flushing.

I don't recall the p/n, but the large Jabsco crankshaft pumps use an impeller that looks identical to the large volume Johnson F6B-9 pump. Even to the trained eye, it's difficult to tell the difference without checking and/or verifying p/n.

Thanks, do you know how to back flush this engine? It is a 305 chevy. I do not know how the risers are internally and worry that water introduced without the engine running thru the hoses from the thermostat housing, could some way fill the cylinders and cause a hydro lock situation.
