Is it possible to take the engine out of a boat in the water it is a volvo penta aq 200 v8 or does the out drive leg have to come off first thanks phil
It's possible, but not recommended. Why are you removing the engine?
You wouldn't have to remove the whole outdrive, just the upper gear box. Then you can remove the flywheel cover and replace the bearings in it at the same time the engine is out. You MUST pull the engine to change those $30 bearings.
Please elaborate.
I cant think of many reasons why the pan itself would leak, short of rust or a broken part hitting it from the inside. Either of these reasons and pulling the boat out of the water is the last thing you need to worry about.
The sump is rusted i have cleaned the bilge out and then top the oil up to full left it a week and oil in the bilge again the engine has not been run at this time the engine is a 94 the boat is 85
If you unbolt the engine from the flywheel cover and pull the lag bolts out at the engine mounts, you should be able to pull the engine forward, then up and out, after disconnecting the exhaust, fuel, wiring, etc.
