Volvo fuel cell fixing itself?

Last time out the boat stumbled, stalled, and wouldn't restart. It cranked fine, but wouldn't fire. Got it home and pulled the fuel filter, it was full of gas, no water. Replaced the filter and ran the engine on an external gas can and it still stumbled and stalled. The fuel pump was making a whining sound on the gas can. I reconnected the fuel line and restarted it and the whining noise went away. It ran fine on the muffs for 10 minutes now with no whine. The high pressure test port is not installed on my fuel cell, so I can't check fuel pressure. Is there a chance there was some water in the system that the first filter cleaned out? If my high pressure pump is on the fritz, I assume it might run okay on the muffs with no load, but still die on the water? Is my best bet to see if the local dealer sells the high pressure test port, or just launch and see if the water/other junk has been cleaned out?

Did you change and check the contents of the engine fuel filter too?
Those fuel cells do not heal, and it may not be a problem with your fuel cell or anything on the engine.
Very well may be a problem with your fuel system before the engine. Might try these tests to determine the problem with your boats fuel system.
