I know this is probably a long shot, but does anyone have any idea what model of Volvo outdrive would have been used on a 1991 Gibson Standard 36' houseboat? There is no model number on it, and we are trying to find replacement parts for it. The housing that we are looking to replace has "C21" on it, and also 1.78:1. With that info, my husband has narrowed it down to about 6 models.

My emails to Gibson have been returned. Of course, I will try to call them once the holidays are over.

Thanks for any help.

Do you know what engine model is in the boat/in front of the drive you have? Is it a single engine or twin engine boat? The engine and drive models seem to very depending on number of engines. Single engines seemed to use on average (example) a 570A engine model which could fit a 1.78:1 gear ratio....Plus the DP drive models seemed to utilize the 1.78:1 ratio the most as seen in the chart below.

The links are just some tools that might help a little in your searches,

There is no plate. We can see where the plate used to be, but it's not there now. The engine in the boat is not the original. It has a Chevrolet 454 in it now.

Pictures of the drive??
They made a 740A motor drive combo.
It came with a dup-prop.
Pics of both will help????

I tried to call Gibson this morning, but their phone has been disconnected. My email was returned. The company was for sale, so I suspect it has closed down completely. I will look through my phone to see if I have any pictures. If not, I will go take some within the next couple of days. Ironically, we have all kinds of paperwork that the previous owners kept down through the years, but none of it has the model of the original engine and outdrive on it.

There is no tag. Thank you. I'll print out the schematic for that one, and maybe we can tell from that.
