Volvo penta 280 missing trim tab

I just aquired a volvo 280 and the trim tab is missing. The previous owner had a whale tail or hydro stabilizer installed. Could this be why the trim tab has been removed? The stabilizer has ridges along its length that could effect drift or pull to the port or starboard under way.

No one knows why it's missing, run it and see what it does.

Just gotta see when you run it... Mine was missing the tab as well but tracked straight without it. Finally found a cheap one on ebay and installed it. All boats are different though
