Could someone please explain how to properly set the initial timing for a 2007 3.0 GL? How do I disconnect the spark advance? Also, the manual states the timing should be 2 Degrees BTDC. Is this correct? I have found other discrepancies in the owners manual.

Thanks in advance.

This thread should cover how to set the timeing.

Yes, 2? BTDC is correct for your engine.
You have to understand, that is the degrees you set the timing at while in base timing mode. Not while the engine is running. Follow the procedure in the abouve thread and set it at book specs,

Re: Volvo Penta 3.0 GL timing

Thank you for your help. I may sound like a hack, but is there any way to get around buying the tool for setting the initial timing? If not, is it expensive? Where can I get it? Technically speaking, what does it do? Also, what is a B+ source? Is it just the positive side of the battery?

I have performed a lot of shade tree jobs successfully, but I want to be able to do it like a professional. Unfortunately, it costs a lot of money to do it exactly right.

Thanks again!
