Hi all,

My Glastron Sx175 2003 model fitted with a Volvo penta 3.0 GS is making a slight tapping noise.

This is a little worrying when I read up about water in the cylinders from the exhaust risers, original thoughts were that the oil just needs changing or topping up. Nevertheless, this was completed only a few months ago and the oil is showing on the full line on the dipstick.

I've included a video below, not the best the noise is more apparent when idling. Things to note, always used in saltwater, dry-stacked, used two months a year in the UK - winterised and properly stored each season.

Also, thoughts on the serpentine belt, does this look too loose?

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Chris

Sorry guys maybe not the best video, that's all I have for the moment,

Regardless of the video any thoughts as to tapping noise? What this could lead to?

Thanks

Unable to say, we don't hear the tapping.
If its a lifter then not much, little loss in power over time so long as it doesn't get worst

Cheers alldodge, I was concerned the exhaust risers might be taking water back into the engine, they haven't been changed in five years (salt water use).

If it's a lifter is it just a case of adjusting the tappets?

Thanks

The exhaust usually get replaced every 7 years unless things show up

If a lifter is the issue not real sure would have to look it up but most newer ones are torque and there set, no adjusting. If yours do get adjusted then its either a bad lifter or the adjustment loosened.

Get to idle speed and see if you hear it

Definitely hear this on idle speed, I'll hopefully provide a better video in the coming day, when I'm with the boat.
