Volvo Penta 3.0L audible alarm sounding

I recently purchased a Chaparral 180SSe with a Volvo Penta 3.0GS w/Penta SX outdrive. First time in the water it overheated right away (talking 230's overheated, so pretty severe). We have fixed all of the causes of the overheating (and some of the damage caused by the overheating) Impeller(cause), exhaust belows/thermostat(side effect) as well as changed out the gaskets on the circulating pump (that was also inspected to ensure it was working all right...long story short, boat is running well again, oil pressure is good, temp is right, but still have constant audible alarm going off.

Any body know a good parts list for sensors/wiring on this Penta that would be a good place to start?

I'm guessing a sender unit/sensor/some wiring, got crispy with the overheating and that's what's giving us the audible...is there a sneaky alarm reset I am missing somewhere?

Thanks in advance for the knowledge!!

p.s. will post engine serial # momentarily if needed

Re: Volvo Penta 3.0L audible alarm sounding

UPDATE:

We started going back through the sensors that are connected to the audible alarm and unplugging one-by-one and when we unplugged (what looks like to me) a oil pressure sensor (below the sender that is connected to the gauge) alarm stopped...plug it back in and it starts again.

So, now that I know what it is, i am having a rough time tracking down the part # in the schematics. Anybody have a clue what this part # is? None of the three volvo service centers in a 75mi radius of me were able to call me back yesterday with any helpful information...

I attached a pic of the sensor

the Volvo engine ID sticker is kinda messed up, but the few #/letters I could read showed the lower part of engine SN being 3869106 (can't read much of the two lines above it, but the very 1st line I can read "-GSP-A" so, maybe, 30GSP-A??

I know it is a 3.0GS, and it has 135HP, not 150, so most likely engine manuf. in 99-2000 according to the Volvo Penta engine archive

Re: Volvo Penta 3.0L audible alarm/engine still overheating

Re: Volvo Penta 3.0L audible alarm/engine still overheating

More problems:

I have that sensor ordered, so hopefully good there as far as trouble shooting the alarm issue, but back to the bigger problems at hand:

yesterday boat started overheating again within 3 minutes of pushing off from the dock!

This time the lower hoses seemed cool telling me that at least the new impeller was drawing some water up through, but the hose from the t-stat housing (thermostat also brand new) to the circulating pump was hot, as was the riser telling me something isn't jiving after the sea pump but before the exhaust.

I pulled the main hose before the sea pump and ran a garden hose there and got water all the way up and through exhaust and coming out outdrive, then pulled hoses on t-stat housing and circulating pump and verified flow up to there...

It's strange to me, but probably not strange to some of the more seasoned marine engine experts out there, but the boat runs great when hooked up to the muffs, but overheats instantly when in the water??

guessing it's a pressure issue, muffs are forcing water, when it's on the river it's relying on the mechanics to draw the water.

my diagnosis is: circulating pump was damaged during initial overheating/pulling pieces of impeller through motor and no longer has the required clearances to maintain good water pressure in the system.

before putting in the labor to tear it out, does anyone concur with the diagnosis on the circ pump?

what other areas should i check if I know i have a good impeller, thermostat, clear hoses?

sorry for the long post

p.s. Engine is the Volvo Penta 3.0GS (30GSP-A) w/ SX-M outdrive
