Hello to all. I have a couple of questions (info) I can't seem to find the answer to. Tho not a total stranger to boating, the i/o is new. Mechanically the engine itself is no problem, in a car people ask me questions about it! But a boat? Well here I am.
With so many variables in the manufacturers & app's IE: Volvo 6cyl engine/ Chrysler 270 outdrive (mine) vs Chrysler engine/ Volvo outdrive? I read about the latter but mine, w/Chrys. 270 doesn't exist. And before someone replies saying the Chrysler 270 doesn't exist, the OD emblem will differ. So to anyone who knows this I'd ask for any and all info on this mating.
Thx, Kevin

Back in the early days of inboard gas engines Chrysler was a major player in the marine industry.
In the late 60s-early 70s they wanted to get into the smaller stern drive boating scene and started selling boats that were either built by them or someone else with their name on them equipped with their engines. Volvo drives were the best drives then and the easiest to service. The 270 models were plentiful and there are many of them still in service today.
Parts for the marine slant 6 are still available with some searching. I only remember servicing only 3 or 4 of your combination and since the drive ratio is the same used on a V8 it is no big deal to Re power with a later model engine which I have also done.

Thanks for your quick reply as Kenny
I know enough to use iboats as I've had outboards before. But on this forum all I could find on the outdrive was that there wasn't a Chrysler 270,(pic)but now I understand the confusion.... kinda.
Any info, best place for info etc... on this out drive would be greatly appreciated. Also on the Volvo AQ1, I believe it is.
Thanks a million Kenny Kevin20210328_190157.jpg

If you google Volvo 270 service manual there are several sources. It also appears that it can be obtained with a pdf format. The main thing is try to get the genuine Volvo service manual. The 270 manual is not very large but should be all you need. Models 250-270-280 are all basically the same with some outer cosmetic changes.
The Engine manual should be available the same way. That slant 6 is really a tough engine but do not spend too much on it if something major should happen.
Should the carburetor need service be sure to get the correct rebuild kit and do not swap it for an automotive style.
The points and condenser are the same as automotive as well as the rotor and cap. Do not remove the distributor, it is easy to not have it seated properly and the plastic gear gets broken.
Sierra Marine should have everything you will need to keep the engine /drive operating.
