1984 Bayliner Capri with Volvo Penta aq125a......changed plugs an wires....cap and points look like they were changed recently before I bought it plus there's old parts on here like they changed them before so I didn't change them. She will start right up and run for 10-15 minutes and then she will just shut down and won't start back up again for another 10 minutes and then the same thing. I'm new to boat engines so I'm not really sure what else to do. You can see the fuel filter pushing gas so it looks like it's working properly ...that carb pumps well enough gas when you hit the throttle. So I'm really not sure what to do with it next. Trying to get it on the water but I can't if it won't run longer than 15 minutes . Someone said maybe electrical but if that was the case why would it run for 15 minutes flawlessly ? It just quits out of nowhere. No overheating nothing.

When it stops have you checked if there is a good spark from the coil while holding the coil wire close to the engine?
Try running it from a separate gas can to check out there are restrictions in the fuel supply.

I have not checked the spark but the coil makes sense....I let it sit for 20 minutes or so after running for 10-15 and the coil was still hot....also...if I let it sit for 20 mins and then start back up it will only run for about a minute or so ....only time is runs for 10-15 is if the engine is all the way cold so bad coil would make sense.

I'll test spark and what not tomorrow and see what happens ...it was winterized drained and shrink wrapped when I got it and fuel was bone dry until I added some...which was high octane non ethanol so shouldn't be anything in there but possible I guess .. thanks I'll see what happens tomorrow

Sounds like the coils getting hot and shutting down.
The condenser could be the problem too.
How hot does the coil get? you should be able to hold your
finger on it while running.

check if the voltage to the coil is 12 volts or 9 volts when running (should be 9)

what is the dwell angle (points)?

having a bad condensor would also act the same way.
