A while back I posted a Solex carb problem and the forum helped me out... it just started running perfectly. Better than it has in years! But now I have an electrical problem. Turning the key and it is dead dead dead it was running great... parked ..turned it off Went to start again and its dead. I checked all wires ..numerous times cleaned contacts once in a great while it will turn over but 99% most of the time nothing could it be that four pronged relay near the 40 amp fuse? it is a volva aq131a is there a way to test the relay and or fuse
NOTHING WORKS ON AN OLD BOAT EXCEPT THE OWNER :)

you say it will turn over and you say its dead dead dead. Which is it ??

Mine would be finicky on occasion, turned out that under all the electrical tape my red reset button over the starter and next to the relay was cracked and the wires bare. I have since tossed it in favour of a marine grade fuse ( like used underhood in car audio to power the amplifiers )

Relays are pretty cheap, I would get a known good or new one, after checking the main breaker and take it from there.
The aq131 powered Volvo Boats ( like mine ) seem to run a really simple electrical system with 1 main breaker. With a good charged batter and if you still have ZERO power to the panel and it wont crank I would start there.
Power from the battery to the starter. Then a lead from the starter to the main breaker then it splits to the starter relay and the instrument panel. Don't forget to check the negative leads as well. Without a complete circuit or a poor ground it wont want to start ( but may give enough to light up the panel )
