Hello all I have a 1978 bayliner liberty hard top with a volvo penta aq200 with a 280 outdrive. Motor is a GMC 307 5.0l, the question I have is currently the motor has a 2 barrel carb and i was wanting to switch it to a 4 barrel rochester quadrajet carb. The intake on the motor is a 2 barrel intake so i will have to change the intake manifold. I was just wondering if the cost and labor required to make this chage would be worth the benfits that I would gain from it. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated

Most who run a 4 barrel don't run the motor so hard that they ever get into the 4 barrel.
The gas usage is a lot more.
It helps a bit when getting on plane but that's about it.

your motor should be a 305, as the 307 was discontinued in the early 70's

not much will be gained from switching to a 4 barrel with that setup.

Thanks for the responses. It is a 307 I have the receipts from the previous owner when they had the motor rebuilt and it states 307. I figured that it wouldn't be worth pulling the distributor and intake manifold to switch out but just wanted to double check.

a 307 was a 3.25" stroke and a 3.875" bore. they were produced from 1968 to 1973. it is basically a 283 with a 327 crank.

the 305 was a 3.48" stroke and a 3.5" bore and was introduced in 1975 as a small bored version of the 350. the 305 is what GM was selling to Volvo Penta and Mercruiser

you sir have a 305 unless someone put in an older motor.
