Hi All, I have a 2005 year Volvo Penta DP drive, as I am prepping for launch I am seeing some stainless steel wires that appear to be a bonding wire of sorts. Maybe for grounding or linking anodes? I am seeing there is about an 8" length dangling that is not connected to anything. Can any of you guys direct me to where they go? Or maybe a pic of one?

Thanks!

If I remember right on mine, two will terminate under the stainless bellows clamps and the backside of the pivot housing.

Without a pic I'm guessing but in most cases its the bonding wire that goes from the bell housing to the drive, or gimbal ring.

The drive usually has a screw located near the wire location that must be removed to pull the drive. Many remove the screw and never put it balc

Also a wire goes to the front end of each trim actuator. Could be one of those.

So I believe I found the answer. Though a bit too late. There is two flat clips on these wires, and it goes under the clamp on the bellows from one side to the other. Bridging the rubber I assume. I had cut off the extra by this time. Must help with bonding of the outdrive.

Mine has new anodes on both sides, and sits in freshwater (not a marina) so I am thinking I should be good. Anodes should tell the story at the end of the year!

Next time you change the bellows replace the clamps and bonding straps. Those wires are intended to protect the clamps.
