Hello -
Hoping someone has an opinion on the following issue -
I have a Volvo Penta 4.3 GL Carb (190 hp) that has 20 hours on it. I am getting ready to bring it in for the 20 hour service.
On two separate occasions I got an ear wrenching high pitched grinding noise when I go to put the boat in neutral. The noise stops as soon as I take it out of neutral. Both times the motor was warmed up and it doesn't happen every time.
The only other issue I've noticed is that the idle is set high. When in neutral my RPMs are around 1000. It's my understanding that this should be around 600-700. The motor has dieseled a couple of times and I think the high RPM is the culprit.
Any thoughts about the grinding noise is appreciated -
Thank you -
