I've got a 2004 Volvo Penta 3.0 GLP-C Engine with an SX outdrive. Manual says use ONLY Volvo Penta SAE 30W Full Synthetic in this engine.
Called down to the marina today to see if they had any of that specific oil in stock and they said "No. Volvo Penta no longer makes/ships 30W Full Synthetic. What they shipped us instead is Volvo Penta 10W40 Full Synthetic. So we are using that now."
I told them that my manual was very specific in using 30W only, and they said if they were to do the oil change, they would use what was shipped to them- the 10w40. I've searched the oil forums here and it seems as though engines are relatively tolerant of different oil, but I wanted to get everyone else's opinion.
Specifically,
1) Has anyone else had their marina tell you they Volvo Penta no longer makes/ships 30w full synthetic? Is my marina on crack?
2) Is 10w40 okay? (I'm sure the marina knows, but I hate going against what the manual specifically says).
