I have a 5.7 Volvo penta that is making some racket when the out drive is turned. It sounds like a loud vibration or loose bearing rattle when it is turned left/right. Its doing it even in neutral. Any ideas what this could be?
When you post we need more info??
What year, model?
Probably the u-joints.
The older stuff didn't have a gimbal but a flex plate with bearings on a drive shaft
The gimbal bearing would probably make noise without turning.
sounds like same issue I am having. mine makes noise in drive and nuetral and worse turning. like stated above mine is older with a flexplate and driveshaft with u-joints. I am suspecting u-joints. out drive is a 290 dp from 1986
tore mine down tonight. found rear prop shaft bearing destroyed. of course mine has a front and rear which means I'll be pulling the motor to replace.mine is an aq290a model from 1986 or so
