volvo penta outdrive compatability

will a mercruiser outdrive work with a volvo penta 270. the volvo has a chevy 350, the mertcruiser outdrive is off of a hammond challenger mark 4 1883.

The housing are completely different. nt to mention gimball bearings trim systems etc. have seen used drives sell for under $100 on ebay &craigs list. make sure to check the serial numbers to see if they have the same gear ratios.

The engine itself . . . maybe . . . but from the flywheel housing, back has to be one or the other. Kind of like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates sharing a taxi . . . :confused:

Ayuh,.... It'll be 'bout as easy as droppin' a Honda motor into a Chevy truck...

Other than the Mercruiser, 'n the Volvo are used to move a boat, what makes ya think they'll work Together...
They have NOTHING in common...

The Merc is a Gimbal system drive and the 270 Volvo is main suspension fork geometry and is much larger. You could do a complete AQ Volvo Penta install where the Merc was, but not the other way around unless the transom was rebuilt.
