I have just purchased a 1976 25 foot bertram sedan hardtop. I found up forward in a box two brand new stainless steel props for the duo. The big one is a 19 (4) and the small one is a 17 (3). Is this corrrect.

Not sure what you mean "correct" The props are correct if used for the application they perform best in.4 blade prop is generally used to improve low end performance. The extra blade tends to add drag so top speed may be less.A 3 blade is more for all around performance.Difficult to know if "correct"without present prop size ,motor size.WOT(wide open throttle) rpm and speed by GPS if possible typical load and activities would also help.

Re: Volvo Penta Props found

Volvo doesn't go by sizes on DP props, they go by Set numbers.
Since they are SS, they could be C4 thru C7 for the 280/290 style drives and F2 to F9 for the DP-S type of drives.
DO NOT mix sets (ie C4 inner prop and a C5 outer) they are designed to work together ONLY as sets.

The props will have the CX or FX numbers stamped on the hub

Re: Volvo Penta Props found

Just from your brief description, it doesn't sound like you found DuoProp props at all. It sounds like you found a 4 blade 19pitch and a 3 blade 17pitch prop. What they are for, I have no idea. The reason I say that, is I assume you mean the (4) after the 19 means it's a four blade prop. Well, I am not aware of Volvo using a four blade prop on a DP. I could be wrong, though.

The aft prop can be a 4 blade, usually see them on diesels. The props are also different diameter and pitch.
Now, on Mercrusers Bravo 3 drives they do use 2 equal size and pitch props, just different direction and hub size.

Sorry, the props are three bladed. One has a four stamped on it and the other a 3. They also have different pitches i.e 0ne is a 17 and the other a 19. Was wandering if I can use them as they are different pitches. Thanks

Re: Volvo Penta Props found

Thanks for the knowledge about a possible four blade DP prop. Yiu know you can get that in a B3, also, right? I haven't seen one, but they were announced a couple of years ago. Now let me give you some knowledge, but I am sure you already know. B3 props are different diameter, front and rear. It's just an inch to 1.5" different, so most people think they are the same size. They aren't.
Since VP doesn't put pitch numbers on their DuoProp propsets, it still sounds like those aren't DP props. A picture sure would be nice.

Re: Volvo Penta Props found

Are both prop ( 17 & 19) the same rotation or is one a right and one a left?
