Hey
So i recently bought a 98 fourwinns 18.5 horizon and it has the volvo penta 5.7GLi i've noticed that most boats up till about 04 or so are carburated but this engine is fuel injected. Did volvo stick with the fuel injection from 98 on or did they go back to carburated and if so why did they try fuel injection and if they went back to carburation why did they go back?

Re: Volvo Penta Question

Volvo uses both carbed and EFI.
Right now you can still get both, but soon the EPA regulations will push out the carbed engines. They just can't meet the regulations, where EFI can.
Same thing happened to the automotive industry a long time ago. A carb hasn't been used on a car for, uhhhhhhhhh, I don't even remember how many years.
Welcome to the Future.

Re: Volvo Penta Question

Oh ok
Thanks
I had heard they went to fuel injected and no one knew how to work on them so they went back to carburated for a few years

LOL, where do you guys here this kind of BS? Here it all the time here, "well a friend told me" or "I heard", or "I read"
If you read it on the internet, post a link. Cause they really don't have a clue what's going on.
