Piled up the lower unit gears in my 1995 Four Winns Sundowner 195 (F$&#). Being a 95 it is during the OMC/Volvo Penta venture. Searching up model and serial numbers of everything the drive is a Volvo Penta SX (with OMC Cobra labels) paired up to a carbed Ford 302 (5.0L). A buddy of mine has a Volvo Penta SX drive from a 2007 Reinell 191 LSE paired up to a Chevy 4.3L. The boat was labelled a total loss due to being flooded out and he is willing to sell his drive to me if I can make it work with my boat. Does anybody know if these drives would be compatible to just swap them out or would I need to do any additional work to make them pair together. Not sure if the Chevy to Ford drive shaft set-ups are similar or not.... Please help!

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... With 12 years 'tween the drives, I donno whether they're the same or not,....

The gear ratio will no doubt be different, 'n not compatible with a V8,....

I thought the gear ratio was in the upper drive on a VP? IF he just swaps the lower part, it might work assuming the pieces mate together.

might...
