I have a 1993 Hydroswift with a Volvo Penta 431b motor and a DP-C drive. The problem that I'm having is that the Tach and the analogue Tilt/Trim gauges fluctuate together--when I lower or raise the trim, the tach gauge moves. Also, the tilt/trim gauge does not work very well and does not work all the time. The tilt/trim gauge will also "freak out" occasionally when nothing is being touched. I checked the voltage at the gauges and all looked good. I checked the gauges' grounds and they showed good continuity.
The "Control Unit" Volvo P/N 857448 has a harness that has wires going to both the tach and the tilt/trim gauge, the light on the control unit will come on and off when the gauges "freak out", and one of the relays will click when the gauges "freak". I researched this part number and the replacement is 873226.
I have not located the tilt/trim sending unit on the drive. Does anyone know where it is located? I have the "Volvo 280 to DP-D" manual, but in the location they show, I can't find on my drive.
My question is, do you think the problem is with the control unit, the sending unit or am I missing something else? Thanks in advance for any help.
