Volvo penta wont start

I have a volvo penta AQ131A motor was running great yesterday I went to start it today and it will not start, it will turn over but wont fire turn the key and you get the sound before an engine starts and then a small cloud of smoke will poof out the carb what is wrong please help.

I would start with checking the plugs and wires,cap,rotor, points. if no joy with that go to checking timing. good luck! hope its an easy one!

Better check the timing belt as well.
