Volvo prop nut question

I have a Larson 290 with twin Volvo DP-SM out drives. To change the outdrive fluid you have to remove the duo props to get at the drain screw. After change the fluid and putting the props back on I was concerned about what kept the prop nuts in place since there was no castle nut with a carter pin nor a locking washer. I have since found out that Volvo uses a nylock type nut for both the inner and outer nuts. The best price I can find for these Volvo prop nuts are $30 per nut or $120 for 2 each to replace them. Does anyone know approximately how many times you can take these on and off before they are considered worn out? I am worried that the nuts went on too easy and could spin off and lose a prop.

While this is surely a prop question I think it is also a I/O question
I don't think the moderators would object to posting in the I/O section.

Sorry I moved this post to the propeller forum. I am still learning to use these forums.

I personally would not trust a nylock nut on something as critical as that after its been used. I would either buy the volvo ones or look for some in McMaster Carr or somewhere else. Ive used nylock nuts on other applications and always put a new one on. Just my $.02.

Perhaps a drop of blue Locktite in each of the nuts would be the insurance you need? That is an insane price for the nuts.

They are good for only so many cycles, I had a nylock nut on my go cart rear axle keep loostening up, I layed it flat down on the concrete and whacked it with a hammer a couple times right on the rounded shoulder where the nylon insert is, it swelled just enough and tightened it right up, but I still don't trust it 100%
