Hello, I have a 2004 Four Winns with a 4.3 Volvo SX-M that has a trim fluid leak. I bought the boat knowing it had an overheating issue and I ended up replacing the engine. I get the new engine completely installed and running and then decide to figure out why the trim fluid tank was very low when I bought it and he pump power plug unplugged. I fill the trim fluid, plug in the power plug, and then the trim works. The next thing I look the fluid level is low again and there is a fluid puddle under the boat that came out of the bilge. The leak is clearly somewhere behind the engine where I cannot get too. I felt the hoses running from the pump to where they go into the transom and cannot feel a leak. I follow the hoses into the transom where they turn to metal in the end and cannot see a leak. Unfortunately, I cannot see or feel where they connect. I am very discourages since I have about 30 hours in his boat and now suspect I will have to pull the motor again. If anyone can tell me if there is any way to get to this by taking things apart from outside of the boat or has any other ideas it would be greatly appreciated. If I have to pull that motor again I am going to loose my mind!

Also, please keep in mind that I found after I bought it that this boat also had a rotted transom that had been repaired recently. The point is this boat had been fully taken apart several times and there is no telling what may have been done wrong, what may have been assembled improperly, pinched, etc...

Thanks

Operate the tilt up and down while you video with your cell phone stuck back in there. Shouldn't have to take the engine out for most leaks.

To pull the engine is no big deal. A couple months ago, I had to pull a volvo 4.3 out twice in 2 days. The last time it only took 1 hr. because I was really mad. ( oil pan leak from me). When you have it out check the trim gauge operation. Volvo penta trim sensors are famous for failing. Just be glad you do not have the newer trim pump that is outside in the drive housing. About a 1000.00$ bill just for the pump. Dave-R
